The construction sector produces 42 million tonnes of waste per year, less than 1% of which is re-used

The construction industry produces 42 million tonnes of waste and rubble from demolition or deconstruction works each year, i.e. three times more than household waste. While an increasing proportion of this waste is recycled, less than 1% is “re-used”, i.e. for re-use with little or no transformation. However, a very large number of materials can be re-used following deconstruction, for all types of works

Conscients de l’impact de nos métiers sur l’environnement et par conséquence de nos responsabilités de Mindful of how our sector affects the environment and, consequently, our responsibilities as advisers and public and private contractors, we are looking to make carbon savings through re-use

Our objective

For Re-use Boosters, the objective is clear: to reduce the carbon footprint of the building sector by 20 to 30%.

To reach this goal, re-use is the most effective and most virtuous way of managing resources because it replaces the production of new materials.

Because it’s better to avoid waste than to recycle waste, let’s develop re-use on a massive scale

Why the Re-use Booster?

Significant improvements can be made to the carbon footprint of buildings by re-using materials.

Today, more than ever, the time has come to make the re-use of materials standard practice in the property and construction sectors! While the supply of re-usable materials is well organised… the demand is not.

The idea of the “Re-use Booster”: to consolidate demand and create a threshold effect.

To remove these obstacles, many public and private contracting authorities have decided to take action collectively, so that the demand can be clearly understood and predicted.

The threefold mission of the Re-use Booster is to

Help and support public and private contracting authorities and designers to recommend re-use by facilitating exchanges with stakeholders (architects, construction companies, suppliers, insurers, environment and re-use project management assistance, etc.) and research partners innovating in the areas of construction, buildings and re-use.

Join forces in a positive collective action and benefit from the clout of a group of contractors to consolidate the re-use market.

Reveal the demand via a platform with the aim of stimulating supply and calculate the associated carbon and environmental benefit.

An award-winning initiative

On 30 June 2021, the coalition of contracting authorities was awarded the Innovation Award of the “Association des Directeurs Immobiliers” (association of property directors)

Looping.immo, the platform for bringing together the supply and demand received the Gold award in the co-construction category at the IT’night on 31 May 2021, paying tribute to the work of the Fabernovel teams in charge of developing the platform.
